This one seems sorta duh. But I did try very hard to consider how Wolf 359 or something could rank above this. Then I rewatched the battle and couldn’t help but put it at number one. I mean come on, it’s just freaking awesome. All the little fighters buzzing around shooting everything and being all awesome, then the Super Star Destroyer getting disabled and crashing into the Death Star. And of course there’s the chase through the ridiculously narrow passage into the heart of the Death Star and the race out where we hear Lando’s yell of triumph. It’s all just so beautiful. And Wedge is a beast.

This all was fun. Hope you enjoyed hearing my opinions about all this nerd stuff. Hopefully no one gets too upset about the order I chose or what I may have left out haha. Speaking of, I figure I’ll give a few of the battles that I didn’t think were quite cool enough to make it…Battle of the Colony(BSG series finale), Battle over Coruscant(SW:ep3), Battle of Sector 001(ST:First Contact), Battle of Hephaistos(Andromeda premier). Byee

Number two!!! This battle is probably the single most influential in all of Star Trek. It was the event that established the Borg as one of the most intimidating and feared evil races in all of sci-fi. This battle, sorta like my number six, wasn’t a battle but a massacre. Starfleet and the Klingons got together a fleet of forty ships and they all got ripped apart by the single Borg cube. While this battle takes place during the run of The Next Generation, we just get to hear the battle and see the aftermath. Its not until the premier of Deep Space Nine that any part of the battle is seen(which is what the vid is from). Despite not getting much screen time, I still put this battle as number two for its huge influence and awesomeness. Be sure to read tomorrow so you can see what I think the best space battle ever is!

Okay maybe this isn’t technically a space battle since most of the fighting takes place in the sky over Antarctica, but all the ships and fighters involved are space-worthy so it counts! Besides, its the most badass battle in Stargate so it had to be included. There’s actually a bit more shown of the battle in a later episode(Avalon Pt. 1). The initial clash between the Goa’uld death gliders and Earth F-302′s is awesome. And having the Prometheus hovering over the cargo ship to protect it is cool, then it heads straight up to take on the massive ship in orbit with every intention of doing as much damage as possible. The drone weapons saving the day was the most epic part, and those become super important later on in the series. Despite all the awesomeness of this battle though, there’s still two more that beat it out. That’s not for today though…

There is no doubt that this is my favorite battle in all of Battlestar Galactica(the reimagined series of course). I love seeing Galactica make its FTL jump in the sky above the colony and steadily get bigger and bigger as it descends then jump again seemingly right above everyone’s heads. Then the Pegasus‘s suicide run to save Galactica is pretty awesome too. Of course the ground battle to save everyone from the colony on the planet is cool, but that’s not the important part for this lol. I tried very hard to find a good video for this one but I couldn’t find one with the normal audio. This one is set to the actual music from the scene in the show though so I didn’t mind it too much. This battle almost made it higher on the list but alas, it was not to be, so you’ll have to keep up for a few more days to see what beat it out ha.

I couldn’t find a video to go with this one but this picture is still pretty awesome. I absolutely love the moment when the Reavers burst through the clouds and the Operative just starts freaking out. And seeing the Alliance ships getting grappled and ripped apart is pretty intense. I have to admit, its a pretty darn cruel way to run a blockade, but it worked well haha. And while its not an active participant of the battle, watching Serenity weave its way through all the fighting and death is sweet. Poor Wash had to die after they landed though… so out of spite I only rank this fifth! Ha well also because there are four others I like better.

EVERYBODY DIES. Well almost. The Ori ships(bad guys) are unscathed and of course the main cast miraculously makes it out but still! This isn’t so much a space battle as a massacre. The combined fleet of Earth, Jaffa, Lucian Alliance and Asgard vessels just gets taken apart by only four Ori ships. Its freaking epic and served to show just how screwed the galaxy was now that the supergate was active. Also I love how this continues the trend in Stargate of the Russians just getting screwed all the time. Their first battleship, the Korolev, is blown to smithereens while the US Air Force ship is damaged but still mostly intact. This battle made for an awesome cliffhanger at the end of season nine. Still, its only my sixth favorite, so keep reading this week to find out which battles I think are even MORE awesome.

Number 7: Battle of Cardassia(ST:DS9)                                                                “Thank God for the Cardassians”

I haven’t actually watched through ALL of Deep Space Nine, but I have caught most of the battles important to the Dominion War, which encompasses much of the story throughout the show. I looked at those battles and decided on the last operation of the War, the Battle of Cardassia(which is in the last episode of the series). If for nothing else,  I love it for the sheer scale of the battle! The huge fleet of Starfleet, Klingon and Romulan ships engaging the equally large fleet of Jem’Hadar, Breen and Cardassian ships is just freaking epic. And then in the middle of it all, the Cardassians switch sides! They reused some shots from previous battles, but overall it has a very final and all out feel which I think was an excellent way to end the War so I just had to put it on the list. Even if it is only in the last slot.

My English class this semester is probably my favorite and most enjoyable class. In the class we look at how to do research, analyze sources and information, and how to develop claims by supporting them with good reasons and evidence. So for my IB comrades, its very much like TOK. The professor is probably one of the most interesting and awesome people I know. I swear he has an anecdote for every subject or situation we bring up in class. It seems like he’s lived almost everywhere too. The above quote is very much shows what he is drilling into our heads. He is getting us to take every fact and bit of information we take in with a grain of salt, to understand that there is very little that we can actually “know” and that coming to a completely accurate and correct conclusion is almost impossible and we have to just do the best with the information we can get. I like this a lot because I already don’t trust everything I learn and hear.

Another awesome thing about my professor is that he is a huge sci-fi literature fan. We’re watching Blade Runner right now as an example of visual media. We’ve also been encouraged to read the book it’s based off of, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Philip K. Dick, which is apparently an incredibly dense book in its content. I plan on reading it as soon as possible haha. Grade wise, our midterm and final grades are mostly based on a series of papers we’re writing. They all deal with the same subject, which has to be something debatable and supportable from both sides of the issue, and each paper brings us into a deeper level of analysis. I’m dealing with the censorship of music, specifically things like the Judas Priest subliminal message trial and Tipper Gore’s attacks on metal and other genres of music in the 80s. I’m having a lot of fun with it. I’m hoping I do well on it.

So to sum everything up my English class is completely awesome and you should all be super jealous. Now I’m off to a not so awesome class, Chemistry. Sigh…

The Rangers started having a record over .500 and beating some of the really good teams like the Angels and Yankees. And finally this year they clinched a playoff spot by winning their division. I have to say it was rather exciting for me, the prospect of the eternally win-less Rangers making it somewhere in the playoffs. They did not disappoint, winning the series against Tampa Bay (which was a little too close for comfort) and then defeating the team that had killed their playoff hopes every other time they had made it, the New York Yankees, and making to the World Series. I think my dad was much more excited than me but it was still thrilling for me too. The loser home team that I remembered from my childhood was now the AL champion and had a chance to win their first World Series ever. This, as we know, did not pan out. They lost their first two games to San Francisco but pulled off a win at home. However they could not keep their momentum and lost the next two games, losing the Series.

Despite losing the World Series, this season has made me about as excited about baseball and the Texas Rangers as I was when I was little and didn’t know or care about whether they won or lost. Of course I still enjoy watching and support the Rangers even when they lose but there’s and extra sweetness to it when they win. And its also nice because the other big home team, the Cowboys, are performing like they’ve never seen a football before. So with any luck the Rangers can manage to keep their awesome team they have together so that we can get into the habit of watching them in the playoffs and maybe, just maybe in a few more World Series.

Okay now time to focus on football! Lets go Houston!
